Lake George was originally a railroad stop for the Colorado Midland Railway. The town of Lake George was founded in 1891 and the manmade lake beside the town, Lake George, was originally created to supply ice to the railroad. It freezes over during the winter and provides a natural reservoir for water. By 1941, there were 100 people living in Lake George, which had become a hub for potato growing.

The 2020 Census reports the population of Lake George at 3,129. The area is comprised of 800.9 square miles with 3.9 people per square mile. As a comparison, Colorado Springs has 2,414 people per square mile. Lake George is a great place to go if you want to be alone.

FLORISSANT FOSSIL BEDS
The Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument is just a 10-minute drive from Lake George and offers one of the richest and most diverse fossil deposits in the world. The stumps of petrified redwood trees up to 14 feet wide reveal details about a prehistoric Colorado that was very different from today.
Spinney Mountain Reservoir is located 37 minutes from Lake George and is best known for its world-class trout fishing. In addition to Rainbow trout, the reservoir also harbors browns, cuttbows, Northern Pike, and Yellow Perch. The Rainbows can be large and are plentiful at Spinney Mountain Reservoir; this makes it a Gold Medal Water. If you're interested in fishing for pike, the Division of Wildlife would appreciate it if you caught a lot of them!
ELEVEN MILE STATE PARK
The Eleven Mile State Park and the Eleven Mile Canyon Recreation area are located in Park County, Colorado, US. It is a state park that surrounds the reservoir of the same name.
