Security and Widefield Colorado are not cities but part of a larger unincorporated area called Security-Widefield. The area is located in the southern part of Colorado Springs, Colorado, just north of Fountain, Colorado.

The Widefield portion of the Security-Widefield area is located south of Fontaine Blvd, north of Mesa Ridge Parkway, west of Fountain Mesa Road, and east of the Can-Am Highway. The Security portion of this area starts at Fontaine Blvd and extends north to the Bradley Ranch subdivision.

Located in the 80911 zip code, Security-Widefield is a popular neighborhood that offers easy access to both Powers Boulevard and Interstate 25. Here are some commute times to popular destinations in the area.

Both Security and Widefield Colorado offer a small-town feel and affordability close big town amenities. Proximity to Peterson Air Force Base and Fort Carson makes this neighborhood a favorite for military families.

Security-Widefield is only 38 minutes to Pueblo, Colorado. This makes it a great neighborhood for people that need to access both Colorado Springs and Pueblo.

Security and Widefield Colorado Community Schools

Security-Widefield has its own School District, Widefield School District 3. This District offers a wide range of programs, including alternative academic programs. You can check these out on their website.

Widefield High School is the oldest high school in the district and is actually located in Security. Mesa Ridge is a much newer high school and is located at the southern border of Widefield.

Students in the southern portion of Widefield attend Janitell Junior High, while those in the northern part of Widefield attend Watson Junior High.

Widefield District 3 offers several elementary schools throughout the community.

The Security Public Library is located just north of Widefield in Security and next to Widefield High School. This Library offers a wide range of programs, classes, and resources for security-widefield residents.

Private Schools & Charter Schools

If you’re looking for charter schools or private schools, there are several options in the Widefield area.

James Madison Charter Academy is associated with Widefield District 3 and The Fountain Valley School is Private School located minutes away from widefield.

The James Madison Charter Academy is located in the Southwest corner of the Widefield area. You can visit their website for more information about attendance and programs.

The 1,100-acre campus of the Fountain Valley School is situated just east of the Widefield portion of the area.

The school opened in 1930 as a boys-only boarding school on what was known as the Lazy B ranch.

The school is now a co-ed institution and offers a wide range of programs and activities.

Parks, Hiking, Trails & Open Space

Widefield Community Park

When it comes to outdoor recreation, the Widefield area has a lot to offer. The Widefield Community Park is a fantastic place to play or just relax. The park offers the Widefield disc golf course and the Crews Gultch Trail. There is plenty of playground equipment as well as gazebos and picnic areas.

The Crews Gultch Trail is an easy 2.5-mile trail that is the start of what will ultimately become a much bigger trail. The plan is to use Crews Gultch to connect the Blue Stem Open Space with the Fountain Creek Regional Trail. Currently, this requires users to travel and cross Fontaine Blvd.

Another great facility is the Widefield Park and Recreation Center. Located right next to the Security Public Library, there is an indoor pool, tennis courts, ball fields, playground, and skatepark.

If gardening is your thing, you can use the Community Garden at Talbott Park. Raised plots can be reserved for $25 to $40 depending on size. There are also beehives, to help with pollination and a picnic area.

Area Amenities shopping, restaurants

Widefield is a dense residential area at the core with retail, commercial, and restaurants just outside of the community. The major retail amenities are located in two primary areas. First area is along the western edge of the community at Fountaine and CanAm Highway. This area features big box stores, as well as smaller shops, and restaurants.

Cross Creek and Fountain Mesa is at the south end of the Widefield community; this area has big box stores, as well as restaurants, retail, and grocery stores. If you can’t find what you need here, downtown Colorado Springs is just a short drive away.

HOA, Architectural Control, and Covenants

The Widefield, and Security areas don’t have HOAs or Covenants. There are individual small neighborhoods within the bigger areas that do have covenants.

If you’re looking at homes make sure to do your homework before writing an offer. A quick search on the El Paso County Clerk and Recorder’s website will disclose whether or not your potential home is in an area with Covenants.

Types of Housing Available

The Security and Widefield areas began Construction in the late 1960s but the median year built for a home in these areas is 1970. The median home in Widefield has 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and is 1,838 square feet in size.

Floor plans in this neighborhood range from basic ranch-style homes to traditional two-story homes, and various versions of the split-level model, including bi-levels try levels and four levels.

Alternative Neighborhoods

Due to its popularity real estate prices and availability in both the Security, and Widefield neighborhoods is becoming an obstacle to owning in the area.

There are some newer developments in the Widefield area like Widefield Glen, But most of the new home development in this area is further south in Fountain.
